A Catch Up & Some Changes

Hey guys :)

So here today to catch up on sharing some scrappy work but also with a little news.

As of the end of April I will be retiring from all of my current design team positions.

I feel sooooo blessed and honored to have been invited to work with the companies, magazines and sites I have for the past 3 years. I feel like they have helped me grow as a scrapper, pushed my boundaries creatively and given me the confidence to believe in myself a little more than I did.

But saying that, I have reached a point where my entire week is planned around DT deadlines. I have found myself almost 10kg's heavier than before I started DT work, from getting up at the crack of dawn to clean my house spotless and ready to start my day to still being in my pj's at 2pm with nothing done and really just feeling like all the fun is seeping out of what I love to do.

I guess the last few weeks I have had to put things into perspective. I always did DT work for fun, it was never to make a name for myself and there is certainly not any money in it, quite the opposite. When it starts to take away from my time, my family, our finances and how I feel about myself, then I knew it was time to retire, maybe just for a while.

I am pretty sure at some stage I will go back to it. But for now I am taking a much needed break. Still totally addicted to this craft and am sure I will still be around with the odd challenge entry here & there. So don't go unfollowing me just yet lol.

So catching up...

First up a layout for UHK Gallery. In pastels!! Yes I know, very very rare for me! I have used the stunning 'Pastel' range. Just love the colors in this collection, they are all different but work together so well!

Next up is the just released awesome challenge at Once Upon A Sketch.
This month's theme is 'an event that changed your life'. And yes my bestie, Nadia Cannizzo is getting a work on my layouts this week lol. After chatting almost daily for 3 years we finally met in person a few months ago when I flew to Sydney to stay with her and her gorgeous family. And for me it was life changing as I know she will be a friend for life :)

  And here is the sketch:

Awesome prizes up for grabs as always and incredible DT samples to inspire you! Check it out here

  1. oh no.................................I'm just so upset right now, I can't imagine not seeing your art, I know you said occasionally, and I understand your need for time away from the deadlines..........but I'm being a little selfish here, what about me??? I need my Paper Vs Scissors fix- often! I will settle for the occasional fix, I'll have to! Good luck, and take your well deserved break, you certainty earned it! I will keep my eye peeled for your art, no matter how far between it is!!

  17. Georgia when I saw your post the other week on facebook I knew you had too much on your plate. Designing non stop can take all the fun out of creating. I think your decision is a wise and courageous one. You need to get back to that place where creating is fun and you can do it freely without pressure and guidelines. I know we will be seeing your inspiration around and I bet it will be better than ever because it won't be forced. I love your work and can't wait to see what is to come with the new you! :)

  18. Gotcha! I wondered after your FB posting.....decision made, I'm sure you'll feel the fun of the freedom & end up hopefully coming back refreshed, with the fun back in your pages!!!!! ENJOY the break!!!!

  19. I too feared this post when I saw you on FB the other day. I totally understand you and I have come to the same conclusion myself, I had to walk away from a lot and it felt very liberating. I kept a few things - otherwise I would just sit and look at my huge stash. I have been so inspired by looking at your blog and would be very sad not to be able to anymore. Hang in there and I am sure you will have fun again.

  20. You have to do what you have to do. So many get in to this business because they enjoy it to only have it one day overtake their lives. Sorry to hear this has happened to you as I have so loved watching and waiting for new posts and new works. Beyond talented! May this bring back your love for it in the first place and refresh that creative spark when the time is available. All my best wishes!

  22. It's certainly time to take stock when it becomes a chore and not a joy….What a brave and powerful decision you've made for the good of your health and your bliss. I have been so inspired by your art. Go well Georgia :D

  23. Just one thing : WOW !!!!!!!!!! LOVE

  24. Georgia.... First off, you are SO very talented. Your creations are so unique. So happy to have gotten the chance to watch you evolve in your craft! It is such a shame though that we as designers become burnt out like this. I did this exact same thing at the start of the year. I quit all but one team and as quasi-sad as I was, can I just tell you how wonderfully peaceful it has been? I am 3 months strong, and don't have any desire for more than what I have now. :) I have been so happy not being a SLAVE to my craft table and going to it only when I want to. I hope you enjoy this new found freedom and we will all be waiting for the lil snippets of Georgia enjoying this art again as they come along :)

  25. I thought maybe this was coming after your fb status. You are one of my biggest inspirations and I want you to have this break...because I know you will come back refreshed and with a new zest for creating. You are one of the most uniquely creative people out there so it's exciting to think of where this resting period will take you in the future! Did that make ANY sense? Long story short you rock! Big hugs!!!

  26. Oh Georgia...I totally get where you are coming from...nearly there myself and I am not on half the teams you are or the pressure. At the moment with a young family, life is very challenging and I find myself cramming everything into the weekend when hubby is a home instead of enjoying my family time....Do what makes you happy, we will ALWAYS be here for you when you return and I know you will. Enjoy you break and enjoy some me time doing different things...big big hugs xoxox

  27. oooh....forgot to say stunning layouts too!! Gosh you will be missed :( xo

  28. You will be terribly missed here <3 But everybody understands how you are feeling. You are making the right decision! I will be waiting right here <3

  29. I absolutely understand your decision! Scrapping is wonderful, but when it takes too much of your time, this is not right. Keep it only as a leisure, and all will be fine. So enjoy "your new life", lol! and come back with gorgeous layouts whenever you want!

  30. Two beautiful LO ! Love the first one !! Very féminine !!

  31. I completely understand what your saying hunnie, I recently did the same but only downsized. It was getting so overwhelming I was losing myself in the fray! I am sure you will love freeing your time up to enjoy life. As much as scrapping is great it can get all too consumming sometimes. Have fun in the fresh air, I'm doing more of that these days and am already feeling more positive! Hugs Em xo

  32. I can completely understand where you are coming from in this post! I did the year off and I came back to it more revived and more passionate about the story of the photo and not the commitment of the layout! I dt now too, but I have only a limit of two teams! I still want a life to capture the stories to be able to scrap! Enjoy your freedom and the time to discovery you once more! Your are one amazing talented scrapper that I truly admire your work. I wish you the best in your retirement "semi retirement" as I hope to see you still playing every now and then ;)
