Experimenting...

So I am still having my 'oh my god I'm bored' weekend so I decided to get a little experimental last night and created a layout for a challenge, Crazy Monday. I don't often show my 'experimentals' on my blog and I am not sure if I like it or not, but at least it is interesting. I would rather create an interesting mess than a boring pretty any day! So design wise inspiration came from a photo I found on flickr a while back of a graphic style abstract painting. I forgot to pin it but it was a pie element with measurements around the outside like a protractor. Theme wise, it is about master's 15's journey to find 'his thing'.

Yet to find his passion and what he wants to do with his future, I try and drum home to him that we aren't what we do. It is funny though, if someone asks you about yourself, often the first thing we say is what we do for a living. But in reality this is only very a small part of who we are. This week I actually got asked what 'I do' and I had so much trouble trying to put into words the half a dozen things I do to try and contribute to our house financially in one sentence. That wouldn't make me sound like a nutter anyway. Even when asked what scrapbooking was,  I made it sound like I sit around all day with a bottle of clag glue and some old New Idea magazines! 'Professional Crafter' sounds a bit wanky and calling yourself an 'Artist' is a bit of a long stretch, any ideas girls? When hubbie & I used to have to attend formal events (prior to scrapbooking and the company he worked for being sold) and sit at tables with CEO's and the like, I used to be an 'Executive Officer of Domestic Operations'. It would take a few minutes before that one sunk in lol.

I have scraped this photo more times than I care to count ( sorry peeps!), but if you are the owner of a teenage boy you would know that it would probably be easier to extract a kidney from them than to get a photo!

Hope you are all having a weekend that is more exciting than mine!!

  2. Hi Georgia. Yes, I have a 15yo boy and yes I can relate. I do like your l/o a lot. It's really pretty cool. It's nice to see something different.
I kinda like the title Scrapbook Artist but don't ever use it. Family historian also has a nice ring but doesn't cover it either. Sounds fusty!
    Thanks for sharing.

  3. Love this Georgia and I totally understand the need to scrap the same photo of a teen, my grandson in 16 and hides his face whenever the camera comes out, that is unless its a friend using a phone to take his pic....

  4. Yep, we've all had experiences with teen boys by the sound of it....glad you managed to fill in your weekend...saw your comment...you must be bored:):) Please don't tell me you did those lines & all those wee numbers around the 'dart board'....you MUST be bored!!!LOL....dunno what you call yourself. I say I'm on sabbatical, exploring my creative boundaries atm...well, I don't say that. I just made it up.....Hope your boys have had a good time away:):)

  5. I love your experiments.. and trying something different is always a good thing to do,, who knows when you will stumble upon the next new thing!! and yes I have a 21 year old daughter who is the most pretty girl but one who refuses to let me take photos of her even when she is dressed up to go out on the town, I have to resort to trying to nick photos off her facebook.. and those are usually grainy and dodgy... so use the same one again I say... this is so arty and reminds of friod or someone who is a famous scientist!! (His name I cant remember...!!) and who knows what name we can call ourselves..scrapbookers ..humm... something to do with betting on scraps!??????haha!! and I am a stay at home mum... that really kills the conversation with a top executive that is for sure... I just love it when someone looks down their nose at me and asks... and what do you do...??haha! I hope the rest of your evening is great!

  10. Fab post and love your page. It turned out great. And no, cannot help re a title. I wish I had one. Hubby and I just went away for the weekend to Sydney and I surprised him by telling him the 4 or 5 things I want to be when I grow up. Maybe then I can have a title.
