Prima Marketing Trend Report

Hey guys :)

Stopping by today to share my latest project for Prima Marketing's monthly trend report feature.

Faux ceramic stag heads seem to be a huge trend in home decor right now and while I have loved them, I always felt they could use a little more 'personality'. So for my stag who started out completly white, I have started with four light coats of Chalkboard paint in Sand, applied with a soft bristle brush. I have then added shading and highlights with Golden Brown and Egg Shell. These paints blend so beautifully!

I then painted some of my favourite blooms and vines with the Chalkboard paint as well. The thick quality paper used in Prima flowers means they hold their shape perfectly, and almost have a ceramic quality once dry. I finished off with a light coat of 3-D Gloss Gel on my flowers, and a sprinkle of Art Sugar across the vines. Now I just have to give her (?) a name!

Thanks for stopping by!

Tombow 2015 Design Team Call

Hey guys :)

Well today I am posting some projects created especially for the Tombow 2015 design team call.

Being that I have hundreds of crafty examples of my work on my blog, I thought I would indulge my more artsy side for this call.

As part of the call we were asked to do a D.I.Y project. With the end of the year fast approaching I have been on the lookout for a cool desk calender for 2015. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to make one of my own! This is an ode to my love of the horror genre - films, photography and novels :)

A Horror Year

This is acrylic paint on a 4.5" x 5.5" Faber Castell mixed media album. My greatest challenge with this project was getting the amount of detail in that I wanted on such a small scale.

I know, it's a little macabre but you know what, I had a ball creating this. It has been a good 15+ years since attempting this sort of painting and I loved doing it! Now being slightly more labor intensive than my usual work, I made it to the 4 month mark before needing to turn my attentions to other DT work. But as soon as I have time, I will be back at it, and will make sure to post the results :)

So for the rest of this post, I decided to create 3 tags, all with the simple image of the same woman as she ages in different stages of her life. I have used different mediums and styles to represent each.

Blah Blah Blah (Teen Years)

This tag was created predominantly with watercolor on top of Prima chalkboard paint with some stamping and heat embossing.

Seek Paradise - 20's

I started with sketching my image in black fine liner pen and then covered it in drawing gum to keep it clean while I went to work on my background. I have used a combination of acrylics, gesso, coffee and a vintage book page with some masking tape, cotton tape and staples. I have also used my watermark stamp set to create contrast in black archival ink.

The Future Is Near - 30's

Created with water & alcohol markers, gesso & fine liner pen. This is my first ever attempt at Zentangle. Hats off to the girls that do this regularly, it is far more work that it seems!

So that's it. Wish me luck! As always, thanks for stopping by!

Prima Marketing Bloom Bag Competition

Morning guys :)

Today I am stopping by to share my Prima Bloom Bag creation.

Prima are currently running a fantastic competition to decorate your Jamie Dougherty bloom canvas tote. Join in the fun and upload your creation to instagram using the tag, #mybloombag!

So here is how I created mine...

When brain storming ideas for my bloom bag, my goal was two things. A modern design that didn't immediately scream 'crafty' that I would be able to use for the beach, shopping etc. And, secondly, I was really itching to break out my new Prima Chalkboard paints...and thought this bag would be a perfect opportunity. Unable to decide on just a few colors to use (they are all gorgeous!!), I came up with geometric pattern so I could use all the colors without it being 'too much.

This month I have created a halloween based project for the PPP board...

I have Prima pimped a plain craft carry bag with gorgeous Color Bloom Sprays, blooms, canvas alphas, wood icons and a fabulous Ingvild Bolme resin embellie.

And this is what the palette looks like...
