Art Journal Cover

Hi Guys :)

Another share today. Something I did last week.
I had some old Stephen King novels ready to throw and decided to keep a few as art journals. This is one I have finished covering ready to work with...

I gave the outside a few coats of gesso, added some texture paste around the edges and gave it a grungy look with some mists.

I have used my sewing notions stamps along the spine and to the front.
And added lots of grungy bits and pieces to embellish including some Ingvild Bolme junkyard findings and resin wing, old lace and some new Prima Marketing Art Ingredients Mica Flakes ( love these!)

Hope you guys like it!
Now to work on the inside :)

Prima Marketing Cigar Box Secrets

Hey all :)

Dropping by today to share a layout created with the fabulous new Prima Marketing Cigar Box Secrets paper collection & blooms.

This collection has some really bold papers as well as a mix of some softer neutrals. I have chosen the most neutral paper from the collection as my background and added color with my embellishments.

I really love the mix of vintage & girlie with this range.

I have also added some Prima Marketing Wood icons, Ingvild Bolme Junkyard Findings, Sunrise Sunset buttons and metal paperclips. Love how Prima has such an amazing range of different embellishments and they all seem to work so well together!

Thanks for stopping by as always...

Working It Til' It Works

Hey guys :)

So one thing I have discovered from chatting to other crafters, is that EVERYONE, no matter what their skill level, occasionally creates a flop or just a project that for whatever reason, doesn't work for them.
Myself included.

So today I am sharing one of my 'flops'.
A layout I did a while back that I wasn't really happy with so put aside for another day.

There was just too much white going on in the background which made it look like there was no structure, just this big blog in the middle.

One of the many things that I love about mixed media is that you have the ability to 'Work It Til' It Works'. So I got this layout out on the weekend to see if I could salvage it, to at least something I wouldn't be embarrassed to show anyone.

And while it is still not a favourite layout, I definitely like it a little more than I did.

So to get around the white and kind of washed out look, I painted the background black with acrylic. Without moving any of the elements you can see how the page just flows so much better without the distraction of the white.

I've added a bit more color, changed the photo, added a few more embellishments as well as a little stamping with gesso around the edges to break up the black.

What do you think...an improvement?

My Art Journal

Morning my crafty lovelies.

Today I thought I would share a 'just because' page in my art journal. I do do a lot of art journaling but rarely share. For me, it is not only a great way to experiment with techniques and get messy but a great way to express thoughts, feelings, beliefs, values and passions.

This is a Finnabair journal produced by Prima. I love that it has thick kraft pages as well as white and it holds up really well to mediums.

To create my background I primed with gesso, then added a little texture paste and then went to town with various mists and inks. Love the coffee and teal combo.

I have used various paper scraps to create a collage background, added some stamping and more mists, then a few Prima embellishments to finish.

Thanks for stopping in
